Newfoundland Gallery Backstory

I’ve been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember. As a boy, I delivered newspapers so I could save enough money for a small oil painting kit. As the years went on, I also got involved in making music, singing, composing and recording songs with a handful of guys who have since become very good friends. My love for creating artwork, eventually fuelled my love for the graphic arts industry as well. I started my own company, Appeal Graphics Inc., back in 1990. After years of following various creative pursuits, I found myself doing less and less drawing and painting.

That all changed when our dearest friends Mike and Phil retired from their medical careers here in Winnipeg, and moved to Twilllingate, NFLD. Once they got settled, they invited us to visit them in this wholly enchanting fishing village.

This was quite an adventure for my wife and I, being a couple of Manitoban prairie folks. The intense beauty of Newfoundland, the amazing Atlantic Ocean, the incredible colors, the welcoming nature of the people and their long and storied cultural history all served as a wake up call to my sleepy and slightly jaded creative spirit. We returned to Winnipeg with hundreds of photos, stories and observations, inspiring me to paint several pieces from this magical part of Canada.

My wife and I have since been back a handful of times and each visit brings more inspiration my way.
